10 Things You Didn't Know About Jaws

6. Spielberg's Oscar Disappointment Was Captured on Film

Even if Jaws managed the feat of scaring audiences out of the water and giving birth to the Hollywood summer blockbuster, it wasn€™t as appreciated by the Academy Awards as director Spielberg might have originally hoped. Clearly holding out for a best director nod, home videos show a giddy Spielberg watching the 1976 Oscar nominations with pals (Including Maniac€™s Joe Spinell sporting a Jaws tee) and clearly being a little disappointed at the fact that Jaws doesn€™t sweep up across the board. The camera stays fixated on Spielberg as the announcements are read out, with Jaws failing to appear in many of the categories including best screenplay. It€™s unclear if there€™s a jokey sense of playful arrogance going on, or if Spielberg is genuinely miffed (who can blame him, it€™s a masterpiece!) but the rare footage is a fantastic watch and documents the start of Spielberg€™s frequent struggles with the Academy Awards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mgrxvTdl-Q
