If you don't know what kiteboarding is, it's pretty much exactly what it sounds like: a cross between flying a kite and surfboarding. Long before she blew up as an actress, Maika was a professional kiteboarder, taught by her dad at the age of 13 and by the time she was 17, she felt that acting may not work out and moved with her mother to the Dominican Republic for 7 months to train professionally as a kiteboarder. She continued to send audition tapes for acting gigs while training, and just ahead of her 18th birthday, she won the part as Zac Efron's girlfriend in At Any Price. The rest, of course, is history, and though Monroe still enjoys partaking in the sport whenever she has time off between gigs, her acting success has naturally prevented her from actively pursuing competitive kiteboarding.
