10 Things You Didn't Know About Mystique

9. She's Charles Xavier's Widow

Fans of the X-men film franchise think of Raven as the adopted sister of Charles Xavier. But while this relationship was invented for the films, the pair have been particularly close in the past. Ultimate comics established a romantic connection between the pair, with Charles's cat being named after the Mystique. More recently, last year's Battle of the Atom introduced a young Xavier as the son of Mystique and Charles Xavier, and Uncanny X-men followed this up when Xavier's will identified Mystique as his wife. Of course, as both books are heavy on time-travel at the moment, as a subsequent temporal reset meant that, among other things, there was suddenly no mention of the shape-shifter in a second reading of the will. What this actually means for the pair's relationship remains to be seen, but the endless meddling with the X-men's history has been highlighted in the Young Xavier character, who is described as being either Charles' son or possibly grandson.

With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
