10 Things You Didn't Know About RoboCop

9. RoboPants

Every time you see RoboCop sitting in his car, you might be pleased to know that Peter Weller had to do all those scenes in his underwear. The costume was too big and bulky to be worn when sitting down so Weller did all those shots in his underwear. On the first day of shooting, it took nearly 11 hours to get Weller into the suit. Once he was in, the first scene to be shot was RoboCop catching some car keys and driving out of the police station. But the keys kept bouncing of the rubber gloves. The relatively simple scene took 2 hours to shoot and combined with the time it took to get Weller into the suit, it made Orion Pictures worried and they considered pulling the plug on the whole production. Peter Weller said the scariest scene to shoot was when he had to walk down a flight of stairs into the nightclub. Only wearing the top half of the costume, he was told not to look down as he walked down the tiny steps and with the smoke and loud music, the whole experience was disorienting. Seven different suits were used during filming and not just the one as most people believe.
