10 Things You Didn't Know About Yoda

2. His Other Names

George Lucas has stated he left Yoda's first name intentionally obscure, to reinforce the air of mystery surrounding the little guy, but it wasn't always that way. The initial treatments for The Empire Strikes Back gave the Jedi master the name 'Buffy'.

This name had changed by the time of Leigh Brackett's first versions of the script, where Luke Skywalker's Dagobah encounter was with a being named 'Minch'. He was later 'Minch Yoda', and by the time of the shooting script, he was known only as 'Yoda'. Yoda's first name, if he has one at all, has been unconfirmed ever since.

Dark Horse Comics published a story about a character named Minch in Star Wars Tales. Minch looked and spoke just like Yoda, was of the same rare species, and ended up on Dagobah, but is definitely a different character.
