10 Things You Learn Re-Watching Alien
1. Lambert's Death & The Art Of Implication
Easily the most disturbing death in the entire movie is that of Lambert (Veronica Cartwright). She's by far the most terrified of the Nostromo's crew and suffers an extremely disturbing demise when she's cornered by the Xenomorph.
For one, she's paralysed with fear and has to watch as Parker is killed, before the Xeno turns back to her, coils its tail suggestively around her leg and then murders her off-screen while her prolonged screams can be heard over the PA system.
When Ripley arrives on the scene, she finds the pair's corpses, but Ridley Scott only shows us Lambert's mangled, bloody foot, which seems to suggest she's either nude or in some state of undress after being annihilated by the Xeno.
Scott has suggested in interviews that he did want to explicitly imply Lambert had been raped, but seemingly opted for a more subtle approach, considering how this could so easily fly over the head of a disinclined viewer.
It makes for fascinatingly morbid consideration upon multiple viewings though, and is yet another realisation of the film's subdued genius.
