10 Things You Need To Know About The DC Extended Universe

10. There's More Than One Justice League On The Way

Like The Avengers, Justice League will revolve around the world's most powerful heroes taking on threats too great for them to individually withstand. Justice League Dark is similar, except they counter the threats which their far more famous counterparts don't even know about! A team of supernatural heroes, they operate in the shadows to stop mystical villains from using their terrifying power to wreak havoc on Earth. Like Deadpool, Justice League Dark - or Dark Universe has it's become known in recent years - is one of those movies which has been stuck in development hell for a very long time. Despite that, it is still happening, albeit without Guillermo del Toro at the helm. The Crimson Peak director has handed in a completed screenplay to Warner Bros., but his busy schedule means that he won't direct, a shame considering the fact that his involvement is the main reason that most of us were looking forward to it in the first place. Despite the fact that the project has now been handed over to New Line Cinema (the arm of Warner Bros. dealing with the Vertigo Comics adaptations, including Sandman and - for some reason - Shazam), it will apparently take place in the DC Extended Universe, something which wasn't the plan when Dark Universe was initially conceived. The fact that the plan has obviously changed in recent years though may be a good indication that Warner Bros. are taking their DC Extended Universe just as seriously as Disney takes their Marvel one. While it's unclear just how much Dark Universe has changed over the past couple of years, del Toro has been quoted as saying that his screenplay revolves around Swamp Thing, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Zatanna, and Constantine (possibly the Matt Ryan version, though the divide between the TV shows and movies means that's now unlikely) as well as a number of others. It won't be an origin story either as all of these characters will have existed for a number of years (good).
