10 Things You Need To Know About Tim Burton's Batman Forever
6. The Scarecrow Was Also In The Mix
Having featured Pfeiffer's Catwoman, Danny DeVito as The Penguin and (to a lesser extent) Christopher Walken's corrupt business mogul Max Schreck as the various villaisn in Batman Returns after starting off relatively smaller with just Jack Nicholson's Joker in the first film it looked like the last Tim Burton Dark Knight film might be similarly stuffed with bad guys.
Not only were they looking to bring The Riddler into the mix, but it looked like the Scarecrow might have made his appearance in a Batman movie long before Cillian Murphy took on the role in the first of the Nolan films. It was rumoured at one time that Batman Continues would be set at Halloween, and the villain featured would be the Scarecrow, with the part played by character actor Brad Dourif.
Based on his turns as both the sympathetic, tragic mental patient Billy Bibbit in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, the far less sympathetic but equally tragic psychic death row inmate Luther Lee Boggs in one of the best early X-Files episodes, and the villainous Grima Wormtongue in Lord Of The Rings, Dourif would've been perfect. Alas, it was not to be.
