10 Things You Never Noticed In The Cornetto Trilogy

2. So Many Shout Outs (Shaun Of The Dead)

If you didn't notice those sly little nods to Night Of The Living Dead and 28 Days Later in Shaun Of The Dead, you probably didn't catch the coy references to a host of other icons of the horror genre, either. Seriously, the production designer on that film must've had their work cut out for them for all the original props and stuff that had to be made just so Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg could stuff a couple more geeky joks into their film. The film is clearly set in a world similar to our own, with dismal high streets and boring suburbs, but all the shops, products and the like are entirely fictional. And not only fictional, but almost all of them are shout-outs to influential people who've worked in the zombie or horror genre over the years. It looks like Shaun works at an electrical store like Currys or Dixons, but in fact it's called Foree Electronics €“ named for Ken Foree, the star of Dawn Of The Dead (and later Kenan & Kel, fact fans). Mary, the first zombie Ed and Shaun encounter in their back garden, used to work at a supermarket called Landis; a pun on the real-life Londis, and a reference to American Werewolf In London director John Landis. The Italian restaurant Fulci's comes from Italian zombie director Lucio, and the guy answering the phone? Edgar Wright doing a dodgy accent.
