10 Things You Never Noticed In The Cornetto Trilogy

8. Spaced Sequel (Shaun Of The Dead)

It's an oft-repeated anecdote that Shaun Of The Dead was born on the set of Spaced, during the filming of the episode where Simon Pegg's character stays up for several nights in a row bumping speed and playing Resident Evil 2. Eventually that culminates in a dream sequence where he gets to bloodily execute some €œreal€ zombies, a situation that clearly Pegg and Edgar Wright enjoyed so much they couldn't help but expand it into a full film. Not wishing to forget their roots, Shaun is actually full of references to Spaced. Phrases like "slice of fried gold" and "he's not my boyfriend" originate with the sitcom Pegg co-wrote with Jessica Hynes, but there's also the implication that Shaun and Spaced might actually exist in the same universe. Or at least a very similar one: when Pegg's Shaun runs into Hynes's Yvonne in the street, they say they haven't seen each other since , a call back to the house music that soundtracked most of that show. Even better than that, Michael Smiley's fan-favourite character from Spaced €“ the drugged-up bicycle messenger Tyres - also makes an appearance as one of the zombies outside the Winchester.
