10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Death Star

1. The Death Star II's Demise Would Have Exterminated The Ewoks

The destruction of the Death Star II, with the accompanying deaths of Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine and tens of thousands of Imperial crew, triggers the collapse of the Galactic Empire and the birth of the new Republic. It also wiped out the Ewoks.

Given the size of the Death Star II and the amount of energy estimated to have been released by its hypermass reactor blowing up, Dave Minton at Purdue University worked out that the battle station's destruction would have rained Isle of Wight-sized chunks of incandescent annihilation all over the forest moon of Endor.

The apocalyptic fate of Endor would have seen a series of impacts several times larger than the extinction event that nuked the dinosaurs and would have given the Ewoks, and probably everything else on the planet, zero chance of survival.

Those not destroyed outright would die in the nuclear winter that followed, and the fluffy cannibal inhabitants of Endor would crown the moment of their greatest triumph with the horror of their own extinction
