10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Death Star

8. It Had Crew Of Almost 2 Million

The canonical troops and crew complement of the Death Star varies according to source, but is always mind-bogglingly huge.

The total complement is around the 2 million mark. For comparison, that's roughly the size of the entire United States military, including reservists. The staggering population of the Death Star includes about 300,000 military personnel and officers, and 26,000 stormtroopers. That's not including hundreds of thousands of droids. Its hangars held 7,000 TIE fighters and thousands of other ships and vehicles.

The various Extended Universe and Legends stories depicting the Death Star added a city's worth of amenities from bars and cantinas with sassy droid bartenders to an officer-only high-speed internal shuttle system.

The Death Star II could have housed almost 2.5 million personnel when completed, including a complement of more than 200,000 military personnel, although only a fraction of these were present on the half-finished Death Star II when it bit the big one at the Battle of Endor.
