10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Death Star

6. The US Government Had To Admit They're Not Building One

A curious wrinkle in US law is that if a certain number of citizens all sign a petition, the White House is obliged to issue an official response. In 2013 the US government was therefore forced to respond to a petition signed by more than 30,000 Star Wars fans demanding to know why the Land of the Free wasn't building a Death Star.

Because of this, we know the official stance of the United States government on the Death Star. It is the opinion of the White House that the Death Star would be prohibitively expensive and represents poor value for investment, as it can be destroyed by the efforts of a single psychic teenager.

It is also at odds with the official United States policy of not blowing up planets. Since the Death Star isn't really good for anything else, it's unlikely the US will be building a one any time soon, although you should never say never.
