10 Thrilling Predictions For Blade In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
4. Blade Will Be More Comic Accurate
In the comics, Blade was born in the Soho neighborhood of London, England and served as a member of MI:13, a British intelligence agency appearing in Marvel comics. Highlighting this aspect of Blade’s comics background will further differentiate this iteration of Blade from Wesley Snipes’ classic performance, while providing an opportunity for unique set pieces highlighting London’s West End. Blade’s mentor Jamal Afari also taught him to play the trumpet and including a scene where Blade performs a number in one of Soho’s famous jazz clubs adds a layer of dimension of the vampire hunter.
A new Blade film could also serve to highlight Blade’s detective skills. In the comics, Blade co-founded a detective agency with fellow vampire hunters Hannibal King and Frank Drake. The MCU does not yet have its definitive detective and Blade is the perfect character to fill this role. Furthermore, the MCU likes to mix different genres with its superhero tales and making Blade’s debut film a supernatural whodunit is an easy way to further differentiate the MCU’s Blade films from previous adaptations.
Blade will also be more of a team player in the MCU. In the original films, Blade was a reluctant team player. He partnered with allies when needed, but he was most comfortable working with Abraham Whistler. However, the Blade of Marvel comics, has served as a member of many teams and should be drafted to serve in the Avengers during his tenure in the MCU, as he was in the comics.
