Despite harbouring no superpowers, Batman has proven to be among the most celebrated superheroes of all time. He's the world's greatest detective, one of the greatest fighters, and somehow, made dressing up as an overgrown rodent look cool.

But what makes Bats a true hero is his willingness to dive head-first into any danger, regardless of the consequences to himself. No matter the odds, Bruce Wayne will never back down from any foe or mission, so long as there's a tiny chance he can make the world a better place.

So, when Talia Al Ghul activated a nuclear bomb in Gotham in The Dark Knight Rises, no one was surprised when Batman flew the explosive into the sea. But despite his boundless resources, it didn't seem realistic for the caped crusader to survive, based on the sheer size of the explosion.

But in the closing moments, Lucius Fox discovers the vessel that flew the weapon away from the city was on auto-pilot, meaning Batman had plenty of time to swim away from the blast.

In hindsight, we should've known Batman would live since... he's Batman.
