10 Times Actors Broke Character In Movies

9. Peter Bull - Dr. Strangelove

Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith Ewan McGregor
Columbia Pictures

Let's be honest here - even the best actor in the world would struggle to keep a straight face when they're three feet away from Peter Sellers doing career-best riffing, but in the case of actor Peter Bull, it was certainly a heroic effort all the same.

Bull plays Soviet Ambassador Alexei de Sadeski, and during the scene where Dr. Strangelove (Sellers) suffers from a bout of alien hand syndrome, Sellers decides to just... do whatever the hell he wants, including repeatedly smacking his noncompliant hand.

At this point, Bull, who has clearly been holding in a laugh for the entire scene, can keep it at bay no longer, letting out a sizable smirk for a few seconds.

And despite Stanley Kubrick's noted penchant for perfectionism, he mercifully didn't request another take - or perhaps simply didn't notice until he was in the editing room.
