10 Times Actors Went Too Far (And Improved Movie Scenes)

8. Edward Norton And Brad Pitt - Fight Club

A Clockwork Orange
20th Century Fox

Everybody knows about Fight Club. We all know the rules, the characters and the quotes about capitalism and consumer culture. With the most recognisable movie twist since The Sixth Sense, Fight Club is one of pop culture's most impressive and imitated feats. It also features a scene borne from filmmaking at its most devious and fun.

During the scene where Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) requests a punch from the Narrator (Ed Norton), the script called for Norton to strike Pitt on the shoulder. However, director David Fincher pulled Norton aside and told him to punch his co-star somewhere else - anywhere else - just to throw him off guard.

In one of the film's funniest moments, Norton decides to hit him in the ear, and what you see in the film is exactly what you get: Norton apologising whilst Pitt jumps around and tries to stay in character. It's a fun little behind-the-scenes detail, as Norton's risky ear shot paid off massively, and Pitt's hilarious reaction make this one hell of a scene in one hell of a film.
