Josh Trank didn't even wait for 2015's Fantastic Four to come out in cinemas before bashing the movie he'd spent three years working on. Just a day before the film was set to be released, Trank posted a tweet in response to early reviews slating his movie. He said that he'd made a "fantastic version" a year ago but that the world would "probably never see it".

Trank quickly deleted his comments, but the story blew up and helped to make Fantastic Four even more of a commercial failure as many potential viewers were put off by the idea of the director basically saying that the film wasn't worth watching. The film was panned by critics and audiences alike, winning several Razzies and being widely-regarded as one of, if not the worst superhero film of recent years.

Trank's comments were later explained by the fact that executives had interfered in a lot of the production, rewriting his original script, cutting out major plot points, and changing his vision, which was said to be quite dark, to something they felt would work better commercially.
