Mark Kermode is perhaps the most notable and prominent British film critic working today, and during an interview with Steven Spielberg for his 2012 film Lincoln, Kermode decided to bury a decade-old hatchet.

In a video released before the interview, Kermode explained that he had the opportunity to apologise to Spielberg for his initial negative review of the director's 2001 sci-fi film A.I. Artificial Intelligence.

Though Kermode didn't think much of it at the time, he re-watched A.I. years later and found the film to be not only great but even went as far as to call it the director's "enduring masterpiece." A lofty claim if there ever was one.

Kermode was in the luxurious position to be able to personally apologise to the man himself for "getting it wrong" the first time, categorically proving that the best and most interesting film critics always keep themselves open to new perspectives.
