10 Times Movies Changed Real Life For Being Too Unbelievable

One of the more memorable scenes in the Best Picture-winning investigative drama Spotlight sees reporter Matt Carroll (Brian d'Arcy James) discover that one of the facilities used to rehabilitate sexually abusive priests is on the same block where he lives with his family.

To keep his children safe without risking the investigation, Carroll simply places a note on his fridge to his kids, warning them to steer clear from the facility and the people inside it.

However, in reality, the situation hit even closer to come - Carroll actually lived down the street from John Geoghan, the priest whose abuse allegations kickstarted the entire wider investigation into the Boston Archdiocese.

But in a 2016 Medium interview with Carroll himself, he revealed that the filmmakers changed this because "they thought it wasn't believable if it was [Geoghan's] picture I put on my fridge."
