10 Times Movies Panicked And CHANGED THE ENDING Just Before Release

Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World completed filming in August 2009, almost an entire year before its July 2010 premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con, giving Wright ample time to polish the film's extensive VFX.

But in May 2010, barely two months before the premiere, Wright went back to Toronto for a small round of reshoots, and while he claimed at the time that the reshoots were simply minor character gags he wanted to add, he also secretly shot a new ending.

This was due to test screening feedback that the original ending, where Scott (Michael Cera) gets back together with Knives Chau (Ellen Wong), was unsatisfying and even "lame," as one feedback card stated.

And so, Wright reunited with the graphic novel's creator, Bryan Lee O'Malley, to write a new ending that was more faithful to the source material, where Scott reconciles with Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) while receiving Knives' blessing.

While Scott Pilgrim went on to receive rave reviews from many critics for its originality, humour, and stylish filmmaking, the editorial changes sadly did nothing to boost its box office, as the $85 million production was a colossal box office bomb regardless.
