10 Times People Died While Watching Movies

Mel Gibson's The Passion Of The Christ is not for the faint of heart, with more blood and guts than your average slasher flick.

Naturally, being the story of Jesus Christ, a crucifixion scene was to be expected, and when that scene arrives, Gibson doesn't leave a single bloody detail to the imagination, and watching this sequence play out ultimately proved too much for one female viewer in Kansas.

In February 2004, 56-year-old Peggy Scott attended a morning showing of the film in Wichita, Kansas. During the crucifixion scene, she suffered a heart attack and died, with doctors at a nearby hospital unable to do anything to save her. Scott apparently didn't have any pre-existing health problems, but the difficult experience of watching this particular scene was enough to lead to her death all on its own.
