9. Thor Losing An Eye In Ragnarok (And The Sneaky Trailers)
Thor Ragnarok is truly a masterpiece, and a wonderful return to form for Thor; Taika Waititi’s stylish adventure took Thor’s character to a new level. Giving him a fresh new haircut, making him lose Mjolnir and pitting him against The Hulk were all things we saw in the trailers. But him losing an eye came far more unexpectedly.
While people usually walk out of movies with both their eyes, it wasn’t so much a speculation as an assumption that Thor would keep his. Couple this with the loss of his hammer we’d already been teased, and it was really a shock to see Thor get so damaged.
This was particularly the case because Thor’s third solo movie had also used fake footage in the trailers to avoid speculation on his eye loss, among other things. In the few scenes near the end that were shown in the trailers, Thor is seen with both his eyes.
