10 Times Writers Hated The Movie Versions Of Their Work
2. World War Z
Max Brooks, author of World War Z, has a bit of a strange attitude to the movie version of his famous zombie apocalypse book. He was originally asked to write a screenplay but refused as he didn't consider himself talented enough in that domain.
J. Michael Straczynski wrote the screenplay and Brooks seemed impressed by it, as well as declaring his happiness at the casting of Brad Pitt in the leading role. However, Straczynski's script later underwent major rewrites and the film became a totally different story, leading to Brooks disowning the project and stating that the only thing it had in common with his book was the title.
He later admitted that he watched and even slightly enjoyed the film, regarding it as a good quality zombie flick, but maintained that it simply couldn't be classed as an adaptation of his novel as it bore almost zero resemblance to the story he had written.
