10 Toho Kaiju Who Need To Appear In The MonsterVerse After Godzilla Vs. Kong

The ancient Shisa kaiju, King Caesar made his debut in the 1974 film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla and returned for 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars. King Caesar is based on the ‘Shisa’, a mythological lion dog hybrid creature represented as statues that were made by the Ryukyuan people of Okinawa. They are originally derived from the Chinese Guardian Lions, or ‘Foo Dogs’, built commonly in China and are said to ward away evil spirits, acting as guardians.

King Caesar takes on a similar role in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, as the kaiju is an ancient guardian of the Azumi family, the royal family of Okinawa. The aliens from Black Hole Planet 3 attempt to stop him from being awakened by stealing a statue which allows the process to proceed, however they are ultimately thwarted. Once King Caesar awakes, he teams up with Godzilla to fight and defeat Mechagodzilla. In Godzilla: Final Wars, King Caesar is under the control of the Xiliens and is forced to fight against Godzilla along with Rodan and Anguirus at Mt. Fuji; Godzilla is able to defeat all three kaiju.

While King Caesars’ backstory would be a strange inclusion to the MonsterVerse, this could be easily adapted similarly to how the concept of Shobijin fairies was adapted in 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. King Caesar would be a good choice for an ally to Godzilla against whatever future threats exist in the MonsterVerse.
