7. Detective Alonzo Harris (Training Day, 2001)
Training Day star Denzel Washington described his character of Detective Alonzo Harris best when he said:
"I think in some ways he's done his job too well. He's learned how to manipulate, how to push the line further and further, and, in the process, he's become more hardcore than some of the guys he's chasing"
At first glance you might think that Harris is just another dirty cop corrupted by his own power. But as Washington puts it he's simply become far too good at his job seeing himself as the bench mark that the good guys and the bad guys should be measured against. He's blurred the line but still sees himself as a straight up good cop. This is what makes him so incredibly dangerous. At the side of his rookie partner Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) Alonzo Harris is no good and ultimately gets his comeuppance but in the grand scheme of things he's a man who will do whatever it takes to keep the cogs of Los Angeles turning. If he has to grease a palm here or control the flow of drugs there he sees it as fighting the good fight from the front line and if you get in his way he's going to leave you laying in the dirt with a bullet in your head.
