10 Toughest Dilemmas In Horror Movies
1. Would You Save Someone From A Monster If The Police Wouldn't Help? - Barbarian
And finally we have Barbarian, a film that's been celebrated for its ingenuity but also dinged for the "infuriating" choices made by its protagonist, Tess (Georgina Campbell).
Among them, in the movie's third act, Tess actually manages to escape from the hellhole Airbnb's basement where she's been held captive by a gigantic, naked mutant woman, all while her fellow prisoner AJ (Justin Long) remains trapped inside.
Tess does the smart thing and brings the police to the house, but they dismiss her claims, clearly believing her to be high on drugs.
And so Tess is faced with a frustrating decision - without any help from the authorities, does she go back in and save poor AJ herself?
While the human self-preservation instinct says to reach a safe distance and just keep calling the cops, because one dead person is better than two, Tess evidently feels enormous survivor's guilt over leaving AJ - who, at this point in time, seemed like a totally reasonable dude to her.
It's a horrible choice either way, and in Tess' case she ventures back into the house - a choice that very nearly costs her her own life, especially when AJ tries to sacrifice her in order to make his own escape. Yikes.
Ultimately nobody's going to judge you for not going back for a complete stranger, even if you might judge yourself for it.
