10 Toughest Movie Heroes Ever
7. Micky O'Neil - SNATCH
Looks can be deceiving, and within a couple of minutes of meeting the smiling traveller Mickey O'Neill, audiences watching Guy Ritchie's SNATCH might have the charming fella down as nothing more than an eccentric crappy caravan salesman. But through slight disrespectful misunderstandings, Mickey gets himself into a bare-knuckle boxing match with the giant Gorgeous George.
Now, Mickey's unique ability to lay an opponent out with a single punch isn't the only thing that puts him on this list. Throughout the whole of SNATCH, audiences watch the charming traveller take savage beatings from men two to three times his size, and Mickey takes those punches like he's getting swatted with a feather duster.
With a chuckle and a smirk, laying out hard-faced bastards in front of no-nonsense geezers is a stroll for little Mickey. For a man who can give twice as hard as he can take, Mickey's determination and heart in SNATCH is something to be admired. He is a little hot-tempered at times, but only towards those who disrespected him; and when the menacing Brick Top has Mickey's mother inadvertently killed, there's a quiet anger to Mickey that fuels his actions in the third act.
Perhaps what makes Mickey one of the toughest heroes is how much of an underdog he is; unlike Tommy and Turkish, audiences know very little about him and he is seen as something of an innocent figure pulled into a world of truly horrible people. It makes it all the more enriching when dirty tactics are used in the bare-knuckle fights, and once Mickey's had enough he just has to lay down his signature move, and the fight's over.
