10 Troubled Shoots That Resulted In Great Films

9. David O. Russell Caused A Walk Out - Three Kings

Ignoring the fact that he's a great director who has made great films such as The Fighter, I Heart Huckabees, and American Hustle, David O'Russell is a bona-fide douchebag. O. Russell has cultivated a reputation for being a short-tempered little twat who is prone to tantrums whenever something doesn't go his way. This spoiled child schtick came to a head during the production of Three Kings (another great film by the way).

O'Russell insisted on filming Three Kings in a make-it-up-as-you-go-along sort of way and frequently lashed out at anyone who was against that idea. His frequent outbursts combined with the film crew's preference for a more organised set meant that tension was quite high. In fact, George Clooney was forced to defend many crew members from O'Russell's abuse. Numerous crew members, including the second assistant director, eventually declared that they weren't getting paid enough to put up with O'Russell's rubbish and promptly bailed. O'Russell's tantrums and abuse towards everyone eventually got so bad that when Clooney stepped in again to play peacemaker, a fist-fight nearly broke out between the two. When you've got George Clooney wanting to kick your ass, you know that you're being a dick.

Three Kings is great and all, but admit it, you would paid triple to watch Clooney knock the stuffing out of O'Russell.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
