10 Troubling Messages From Superhero Movies

1. Never Kill, Even When Doing So Threatens Other Lives - The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Batman's "no killing" rule has created a lot of debate surrounding Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, firstly whether he has, in fact, killed people - leaving Ra's to die on the train and pushing Dent off the platform - and the fact that his no-killing rule has, through inaction, caused a lot of other deaths. Though The Joker is a slippery customer to catch, imagine how many lives could have been saved if Batman had simply moved to strike a little sooner, less intent on capturing him and more on simply stopping him by any means necessary. It's an interesting moral dilemma; should Batman refuse to kill, even if it causes more death, or get murderous but dirty his own soul? I think it comes down to utilitarianism at the end of the day, and saving as many lives as possible; it's not like The Joker even values his own life anyway, and I doubt many would object to him being put down. Oh wait, I can see it now - The Dark Knight alternate ending features Bats being brought up on charges by Amnesty International for hurling The Joker off the top of that building. Yeah...right...
