10 True Ghost Stories That Inspired Horror Films

1. The Entity

Doris Bither, from Culver City California, claimed to be sexually assaulted by ghosts. That's right, not just one, but three paranormal entities would regularly attack the woman, and the events were corroborated by her four young children.

With the filmic adaptation staying remarkably true to the stories Bither has recounted, the deftly portrayed desperation on screen can't hold a candle to the nightmare Bither and her family endured on a daily basis, suffering at the hands of unknown attacks repeatedly, until the day she died.

None of the family were safe from the presence, who bit, slapped, and scratched them all with no remorse - though it was only Bither that had attacks of a sexual nature. Her eldest son, witness and victim to many of the ghost's behaviours, described the ordeal:

“It was like if a man was standing in front of my mother and would start to beat her. Imagine a woman being beaten. You could see her being picked up and thrown around. Sounds, slaps…but there was no one there to actually do it.” He continued, “we all felt it too. Pulling, biting and scratching…we were all attacked.”

Paranormal investigators have been obsessed with the case, and many reported witnessing strange happenings around Bither when they visited her home. Unfortunately, the only explanations they could offer were that Bither had summoned the creatures herself, by either manifesting negative energies or through toying with occult practises in her teenage years, though no one knows the truth behind the case.

And now, we never will: Bither died in 1999, leaving her remarkable haunting case forever unsolved.
