Deliver Us From Evil documents struggling NYPD sergeant Ralph Sarchie, who joins forces with a priest trained in exorcisms to rid the streets of possessed civilians. With a mounting level of heinous crimes and evil lurking around every corner, the duo must save the city from demons whilst battling their own.

It's very Hollywood, isn't it? Maybe a little too much, as it's already been claimed to play around with the truth in more than a few aspects. However, it does capture the essence of the real Ralph's experiences in their terrible reality - mixing together the stories from the self-proclaimed demonologist into one big melting pot of paranormal experiences.

Based on Sarchie's book, Beware the Night, director Scott Derrickson stated that "It’s the real Ralph Sarchie, how he thinks, how he talks, what he does, how he’s changed as a person as a result of the stuff he does... But the main storyline is fictional, and I had to do that in order to make it work as a movie."

Hellbent on fighting evil and never charging anything for his services, Ralph Sarchie is absolutely convinced by his demon theories, and completely anti science when it comes to dealing with them. A man of extreme faith, he utilises his cross and holy water to fight representations of evil - and it seems to work for him.

Sarchie claims to have seen an incubus, backwards writing on mirrors, and demons using people as mouthpieces throughout his time on the job - but never once has it put him off his 'calling' to save the world from this specific evil.
