10 'True Stories' You Should Take With A Pinch Of Salt

3. The Haunting In Connecticut (2009)

Pinch Of Salt - The Haunting In Connecticut

Now we get into the more obvious ones; you may ask: 'Obviously The Haunting in Connecticut was complete rubbish, why does it need to be included on this list?' Well, unfortunately when the film first came out it advertised everywhere that it was a true story and after watching it, I knew people who believed every word of it... simply because it said at the start it was true. After all, why would they lie? If you haven't seen it, it contains scenes with ectoplasm coming out of people's mouths (see poster), ghosts, people waking up covered in scratches, exorcisms, bodies stock piled in the walls of the house and a boy manages to be completely cured of Cancer. Surely this is nonsense? No! It says 'based on a true story.' The large fire at the end did not happen and the house is still standing today so that kind of rules out the bodies in the walls part... unless they removed them and just boarded the walls back up but I couldn't find any evidence of there ever being a mass grave there. The 'real' photographs of ectoplasm have since been proven to be fake and it is believed that the people in the house used wet cheesecloth to create the effect. If I remember correctly, you can see these photographs in the actual film. The Haunting in Connecticut is a pretty rubbish film but you will be surprised at how many people believe the events really did happen. The same goes for the next film...
