10 Twisted Timelines Created By Avengers: Endgame
6. 2014: The Red Skull Goes Bat-Schmidt
Realistically Captain America has no chance of returning the Stones on his own. The logistics are impossible: he would have to return the Time Stone to the Ancient One in 2012 first, and ask for the help of the Sorcerer Supreme.
However, in order to make sure that the heists still take place they can’t just use the Time Stone to rewind the thefts: they have to replace the Stones after they’re taken, as close as possible to their exits.
Arriving on Vormir in 2014’s new timeline moments after Hawkeye leaves, Captain America and the Ancient One come face to face with the Stonekeeper, the creature that used to be the Red Skull.
Cap is appalled at the idea of handing the Soul Stone to his dreaded World War II nemesis, but The Ancient One persuades him that the Soul Stone must be restored to the time and place it was taken from to prevent the timeline fracturing still further.
But again, the damage has already been done, and the timeline splits again - because when Hawkeye was given the stone, the Stonekeeper was freed from his long captivity. Schmidt recognises Rogers, his past life returning to him. and he demands that Captain America hands him the Soul Stone.
Unable to trust him, Rogers throws the Stone from the cliff and vanishes. Furious that his archenemy still lives while he has been imprisoned all this time, the bloody-faced wraith departs the rock, swearing endless vengeance upon the universe…
