10 Twisted Timelines Created By Avengers: Endgame
4. 2012: It’s A Trap!
On a rooftop across town, the Ancient One has just said goodbye to Banner. Shortly afterwards, our Captain America arrives with five infinity stones, a magic hammer and a cunning plan… and a short conversation later, they’re off on an odyssey across space and time to cunningly replace the six artifacts moments after they’re removed, hopefully without damaging time too much.
But while Cap’s got a destination in mind that doesn’t involve revisiting 2012 again (unless it’s the long way around), the Ancient One has to come back home sometime. A superhero dressed in the stars’ n’ stripes can’t make his way across a Manhattan he’s literally just saved from an alien invasion without being spotted, and Cap now has the Avengers and Hydra looking for him, albeit for different reasons.
So when the Ancient One returns from returning the Soul Stone to 2014, she finds that the New York Sanctum is the convergence point for the world’s oldest terrorist organisation and the world’s newest superhero team, all keen to find out where this ersatz Captain America has gone.
Stark knows our Cap is a time traveller, while Hydra are convinced the Avengers have rumbled their plans, and both parties just saw a monk appear out of nowhere in a roof garden. The timeline splinters again, as Hydra - a cult built around the worship of an alien god which spent much of the 20th century turning space magic into weapons tech come face to face with sorcery as a concept just as they make their play for world domination.
