10 Unbelievable Behind-The-Scenes Stories About The Room

4. Peter Was Supposed To Have More Lines

The Room has so many different side characters and all of them are completely pointless.

Denny, Michelle, Mike, Chris-R, the dog in the flower shop, all of them are in the film just for the sake of it; no backstory, no motivations, no meaning at all. It is gloriously awful.

One such side character is Peter, Johnny’s psychologist friend who appears midway through the film and is perhaps most memorable for falling over whilst playing football whilst wearing a tuxedo. I’ve written so many odd sentences whilst describing this film.

Eagle-eyed fans may notice that Peter essentially disappears after this moment in the film. Again, this is because that’s what happened; the actor playing Peter told Wiseau that he had a limited schedule, but not all of his scenes were filmed in time.

So, what brilliantly clever way did the Room crew come up with to disguise this? They gave Peter’s lines to a different actor. Playing a different character. A character who was never introduced by name during the film. Seriously.

The character, who’s name is apparently Steven, appears 76 minutes into the film (which is 96 minutes long) and the actor who played him, Greg Ellery, recalls a phone call he received from Wiseau, during which the director told him “Peter left. Now you are like Peter, but you are Steven.” Makes perfect sense.

Yet another example of the backstage madness on the set of this movie, the character of Steven perfectly shows that nobody had a clue what they were doing, but were quite happy to take a pay cheque from Wiseau at the end of the week.
