5. Videodrome
I love Videodrome because it's the type of sci-fi movie that people won't include in the genre. Part horror movie, part just plain weird, Videodrome is indeed a very dark science fiction flick from the great director David Cronenberg. The film follows a sleazy television producer played by James Woods in top form as he searches for the ultimate extreme television experience. When he finds a snuff show and begins to watch the world around him changes until finally he realizes that he has no grip on reality left. However, by then it's far too late to go back. The hallucinations in this film are downright creepy and if you asked for sleazy you can't get much better than Woods. As far as science fiction movies go compared to this film on the dark scale, Blade Runner might as well be WALL-E. Definitely not the movie to watch if you're already having an off day.
