As You Are won the Special Jury Prize at Sundance this year, hailed as an impressive coming-of-age drama presented with a maturity beyond the age of 23 year old and first-time director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte (yes, you read that right). Set during the grunge-era of the early nineties and in the echoes of Kurt Cobain's death, the film centres around the dynamic of three friends, including two angst-ridden step-brothers whose close relationship is fractured by the splitting up of their parents. The story is told in a series of flashbacks, prompted by police interrogations and with the mystery slowly unravelling, leads up to a devastating crescendo. This is a perfect example of low-budget filmmaking perpetuated by a simple desire to tell a story - albeit with beautiful cinematography that can only leave you breathless. As You Are was featured at Sundance in January and is expected to have a 2016 release.
