10 Underappreciated 80s Thrillers You Must Watch

1. Frantic

Frantic Harrison Ford
Warner Bros.

Frantic has a simple set up to kick things off. Harrison Ford plays Dr. Richard Walker, in Paris with his wife for a medical convention. After a luggage mix up and by the time he has had a shower in their hotel room she has inexplicably vanished. The local police and staff are frustratingly unhelpful.

He discovers evidence that she may have been abducted and decides he needs to take matters into his own hands. He encounters a mysterious young woman named Michelle who knows more than she is letting on about his wife’s disappearance and the reason behind it.

In a decade that saw Ford play three of cinemas greatest characters – Solo, Indy and Deckard, here he plays a more subdued role in the average joe out of his depth category. But, it is a great and often overlooked performance. The camera rarely leaves Ford and he carries the film through on his talents. Roman Polanski’s direction is tight and accomplished and following a quiet period it finds him back on form at the end of the decade.
