10 Underdogs We're Rooting For At The Oscars

9. Sally Hawkins (Best Supporting Actress - Blue Jasmine)

Sally Hawkins had a tough role to fill in Woody Allen's best film in years, Blue Jasmine. Not only did she have to adopt an American accent, but more importantly, she had to play second fiddle to Cate Blanchett, whose volcanic performance is almost certainly going to win the Best Actress Oscar this Sunday. Hawkins was unquestionably overshadowed by Blanchett, but that's how things needed to unfold: Hawkins instead gets the less-glamourous of the two roles, yet Academy voters were smart enough to still recognise her achievements with a nomination. Hawkins is a superb actress and though she hasn't got a chance of winning up against the likes of Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years A Slave) and Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle), it'd be great to see her rewarded alongside her more widely-praised co-star.
