10 Most Underrated 90s Teen Films

4. That Thing You Do!

If you can make your way through this film without the title track permanently seared into your brain, you probably deserve a medal. That Thing You Do is a film about a fictional band (called The Oneders/The Wonders) in the 1960s who makes it big...it's also the name of their number 1 hit, and yes, they play it about once every five minutes. This is Tom Hanks' baby, and he was responsible for writing both the script and a number of the songs featured in the film, as well as directing and starring in it. Hats off to you, Mr. Hanks, because you have created a well-crafted picture that I could watch pretty much once a week and not get tired of. The main characters are all intensely likeable (except for Jimmy, but that's kind of the point), with special kudos to Guy Patterson for proving once again that the lead singers may get all the attention, but the drummers are the chillest members of the band. Humor is top notch in here (Steve Zahn is a particular highlight), and I really enjoy the period feel they were able to maintain throughout the film. Can't say enough good things about this movie, and I really wish more people knew about it.
