10 Underrated Action Films You Have To Watch

4. Universal Soldier: Regeneration (2009)

The Rundown
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

Direct-to-video releases are usually pretty bad but there are exceptions to the rule. Universal Soldier: Regeneration is that exception. Starring action movie powerhouses Dolph Lundgren and Jean Claude Van Damme, this film is full of violence from start to finish.

This film does a good job of not getting caught up in balancing the story of numerous sequels and spin-offs and instead takes place after the story of the original film. The film focuses on two reanimated soldiers who have deadly capabilities. While sharing some similarities to the Terminator series, this title focuses on what would happen if two super-soldiers were robotically engineered to come back to life and keep fighting one another.

The result is a deranged Dolph Lundgren using his superior military powers to cause harm, while Van Damme tries to stop him in equally bombastic action scenarios. Universal Soldier: Regeneration is one of the best direct-to-video titles of the last 20 years and is thoroughly enjoyable throughout.
