10 Underrated Horror Movie Parodies
5. Wacko
Similar to Pandemonium, this spoof was intended to be a raunchy, ribald spoof of slasher movies. And like Pandemonium, it was a silly, cheesy, deeply dated success.
Directed by Greydon Clark, Wacko, like so many in its genre (as this list has proven), took aim at another popular cinematic trend of the eighties: the slasher movie.
With a pumpkin headed killer declaring “death to all teenagers who f***”, a detective walking around with a briefcase full of coffee, and an early role for controversial stand up Andrew Dice Clay, there’s no doubting that this is one of the cruder offerings listed here. But like the later Scary Movie, there’s an undeniable charm to the film’s balls-to-the-wall persistence, with each scene flying in the face of good taste as it scrambles to cram as many (often lame) gags into each frame as possible.
Silly, raunchy, and incredibly of its time (this is a film so eighties it makes Miami Vice looks subtly timeless), this goofy spoof is worth a watch for slasher fans and parody film completists.
