10 Underrated John Williams Tracks

5. The Lost World - Malcolm's Journey (1997)

The Lost World: Jurassic Park is nowhere near as good a film as its predecessor. Jurassic Park (1993) is a perfect film and made by a director at the height of his powers. The sequel is certainly a letdown but considering the turns the franchise has taken since, worthy of reconsideration. One aspect that deserves a second look is Williams' score.

Instead of simply rehashing the iconic theme from the first film, Williams creates en entirely new one. Malcolm's Journey is reminiscent of Max Steiner's music for the original King Kong. It's a call to adventure on a mysterious island, full of the romance of danger that kind of journey would entail. It builds and builds to a thundering crescendo as our heroes arrive on the dinosaur-ridden Isla Sorna.

While the film never quite reaches the heights of this music, it does what a lot of underrated Williams music does: It gives the audience a glimpse into what Williams felt and saw when viewing a rough cut of what often becomes a disappointing film.
