10 Underrated Movies With Jaw-Dropping Ensemble Casts

4. Mystery Men

As far as oddball superhero movies go, none do it better (or more hilariously) than Mystery Men. A pitch-perfect crew of A-and-B-listers are assembled to portray the ragtag group of crime fighters, with Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria, and William H. Macy leading the way as three of the most endearingly inept crusaders you'll ever see. Mr. Furious, The Blue Raja, and The Shoveler may not be the best line of defenses against supervillains, but they're damn sure a treat to watch as they flail valiantly against Casanova Frankenstein (played with a biting friskiness by the incomparable Geoffrey Rush) and his dated henchmen (which include Eddie Izzard, Pras Michel, CeeLo Green and, for some reason, Michael Bay). Adding quirky fuel to the already hysterical fire is a glorious collection of even worse wannabe heroes, with Kel Mitchell, Paul Reubens, Janeane Garofalo (welcomely taking some time off from her overly serious brand of comedy to goof around with Stiller again), and Tom Waits' curiously non-violent mad scientist. Of course, the most spot-on performance comes from Greg Kinnear, who was born to play the conceited real superhero, Captain Amazing, as he smirks his way through one-liners that only sound cool coming out of a legitimate Superman type.
