10 Underrated War Horror Movies

3. Werewolf (2018)

Contrary to what the title suggests, 2018's Werewolf contains no wolf-like shapeshifters howling at the moon. Instead, Adrian Panek's heart-breaking drama follows a group of boys liberated from a Nazi death camp.

The children reside in an abandoned palace, believing they'll soon be reunited with their families. But after SS officers release feral hounds in the area, the kids realise they'll be ripped to shreds if they leave the building. As they run out of food, water, and supplies, the group acknowledge their only choices are to run or fight.

Even though "kids versus dogs" doesn't sound like the most sensational pitch ever, Werewolf is surprisingly poignant. The tension is elevated every time the children are in danger since they've already endured the worst experience imaginable and are close to getting their own lives back. The fact these dogs originated from the same concentration camp the children were supposed to die in cuts deep, as it symbolises they can't run away from their past.

Going in blind, some may be disappointed to learn this war drama contains no actual werewolves. However, if you give it a chance, you'll see this unappreciated flick has plenty of bite.
