5. Erik (The Phantom Of The Opera)
The famous tale of The Phantom of the Opera has been a long-standing Broadway show and has also seen many cinematic reproductions, and with good reason - it's an absolute classic. The Phantom is Erik, a deformed and mentally unstable man who hides behind a mask in the catacombs beneath Pariss famous Opera Populair. Erik falls in love with Christine, a chorus singer who he takes under his wing to mentor and teach. Christine falls in love with someone else and Eriks love quickly turns into heated, jealous rage. He tries everything to win Christines affections including threatening her loves life. Erik's ambiguous traits are what make him so interesting as a character; he is loving yet bitter and full of vengeance, he is fearsome but generous and giving, and he is hideous yet loveable.
