10 Unforgivably Bad CGI Scenes In BILLION Dollar Movies
2. Rogue One - Princess Leia Takes the Plans
The first live-action Star Wars cinematic offering outside of the main series took a host of bold gambles, paying off several of them to varying dividends in its tale of a ragtag band of Rebellion spies stealing the plans for the Death Star - of which arguably the biggest was the decision to resurrect Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin from beyond the grave with visual effects.
Opinion varies on whether the digital Empire supremo was a masterstroke or a step too far into the uncanny valley - he sits somewhere on the border for many - but one thing pretty much universally agreed is that he looks a sight better than the rendering of a young Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in the final shot of the movie. There's no de-aging here; just a double and a waxy CGI mask that looks utterly unnerving. (A brief shot of young Leia, in The Rise of Skywalker, fared arguably better.)
