3. You've Left Your Fate In The Hands Of Bonkers People
After looking at the previous point, you might argue that we can feel safe because we're protected by the Avengers. Well to that I say, fair enough. When firing on all cylinders, the Avengers are indeed a force to be reckoned with, but that's one hell of an ask. The fact of the matter is that for the sake of movie-drama, all the Avengers come with their own baggage. Despite his apparent Zen-mastery, some manipulation can turn Bruce Banner into an uncontrollable rage machine, Thor wields a power that can cause massive collateral damage and is prone to arrogance and naiveté, Tony Stark isn't exactly the most mentally balanced bloke in the world and as for the more human members of the Avengers, there's only so much they can do when faced with supernatural threats. Remember, Loki bested Hawkeye in mere seconds and Captain America was almost killed at multiple points of the Battle of New York. Frankly, they've all got their weaknesses, but the most identifiable of which comes from Iron Man. Of all the heroes, Iron Man is probably the most capable of helping humanity quickly and easily. That's not to say he's the most formidable of the Avengers, it's just to say that if you wanted to arm humanity at a stroke, Tony's your man. After all, he's only human himself, and is made super by a huge mechanical arsenal. Yet if Iron Man 2 & 3 have made anything abundantly clear, it's that Tony is both mentally unstable and unwilling to share his inventions with anyone else. It's not like he finds it difficult to give suits to people James Rhodes was able to utilise the damn thing in no time at all. Yet so far, he's only given out one paltry suit, and that was the one Rhodes had to steal off him. I could understand this during the events of Iron Man 2 even though he was being selfish, the government was attempting to appropriate his stuff. Yet come the events of Iron Man 3, not giving the world access to the House Party programming seems a bit cruel, really, especially considering we've lost the Tesseract, and it's been made clear there are galaxy-wide threats in play. As it is, Earth's most potent defence force ended up exploderised on the whims of one unbalanced man. Seems a waste, really.
