10 Unintentionally Hilarious Horror Movie Monsters
9. Godzilla - The Return of Godzilla (1984)
Godzilla has ruled Kaiju-cinema for so long that he is the blueprint for all giant monsters. Hell, even now, he's dominating the box office with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. But things haven't always gone well for the big boy lizard.
There was a time when Toho had fully leaned into the heroic side of Godzilla, having him fight other monsters with flying dropkicks, dancing around like a goofball, and even featuring a cuter design. As such, it was a welcome move when the company decided to go back to horror basics with The Return of Godzilla. Sadly, a technical fault took away nearly all of that fear.
This movie employed a huge animatronic Godzilla puppet for the titular monster. However, a malfunction led to 'Zilla's eyes facing completely opposite directions. As a result, all the fear instilled by the impressive city-wide destruction was ruined anytime viewers clocked his wonky stare.
The American release of the movie even had to cut out all but every close-up of the King of the Monsters due to how unintentionally funny he looked. Ouch.
